Classes begin the first week of September and run through to the year end show in June. Take a look at our complete calendar including breaks over the winter, spring, and summer sessions, show dates, and more.
All students enrolled in a performance class will perform in our winter showcase in December and year-end show in June. It is a fun and exciting way to show off your hard work! Performers are not required to pay to perform, the theatre costs are covered by the studio.
Anyone wishing to watch the show from the audience is required to purchase a ticket. Tickets will be available for sale through our website.
Here is a list of the attire requirements by class type: Class Dress Codes
Conveniently located inside of the studio is Limelight Performing Arts Supply. We can take care of your needs for any uniforms, shoes, attire, and equipment needed for classes. If we don’t have your size, we can custom order for you!
Trial classes may be set up with the front desk to try out a class before enrolling. A specific Limelight instructor will evaluate your dancer and ensure they are placed in the appropriate level class.
For all classes we recommend your performer enroll in a class that seems like the correct level, depending on their amount of experience.
Level 1: 0-1 years experience
Level 2: 2-3 years experience
Level 3: 4-5 years experience
Level 4: 5+ years experience
*Level does not always correlate to a students years of experience, however this it is a good measure for initial placement.
During the first month of classes instructors will evaluate students in class to ensure they are in the correct class.
The decision to move a student up levels should be made collaboratively between the student, their parents or guardians, and the instructor, taking into account mastery of the current curriculum, consistent progress, readiness for challenges, physical and mental abilities, as well as commitment and dedication.
Ultimately moving up a student is Limelight's decision to make, we ask that students and parents/guardians please respect our decision. We too want to see your student grow and succeed, while also ensuring the safety of each and every performer.
Limelight classes are scheduled with 5 minute transition periods. Please use this time to go to the washroom or have a snack. Students are discouraged from using the washroom during class time, as this is disruptive for the entire class. Water bottles are the only thing allowed inside our studios, all food must be eaten in the student lounge during breaks.
Limelight welcomes parents to walk their students to their class and ensure their child is settled in before class begins. Once class begins we ask that all parents watch only from our observation windows. It has been demonstrated that having parents in the room can be distracting for the students. Our youngest performers (2-3 years old) may occasionally need assistance and guidance from their parents, therefore depending on the child’s independence, parents may be invited to sit-in on the occasional class.
We have a large youth programs, offering classes for children as young as 1 years old, as well as a comprehensive adult performance and fitness programs.
My Shadow and Me: 1-2.5
Toddlers: 2.5-4
Kids: 5-7
Youth: 8-10
Junior: 11-13
Senior: 14-19
Company teams are for students of all ages! However, competitions can only be attended once performers are 6 years old.
All ages are as of the 31st of December.
Certain exceptions may be made for age guidelines. This decision is to be made by Limelight Performing Arts.
Our experience shows that following a few simple rules can make a world of difference in this situation.
First, on your way to class explain to your child where they are going and what they will be doing, and about the new friends they will meet.
Second, always bring your child 5-10 minutes early. Give them time to change, and get into the atmosphere of the class. Bringing a child late and pushing them into the class after it started almost always results in confusion and a feeling of being put on the spot. This leads to crying in many cases.
Finally, and contrary to logical thinking, if a child sees a parent during the class they will almost surely want to be with them, and not with other kids dancing.
Our toddler methodology is specifically designed for small children of this age. At the Instructor’s discretion, they may invite the parent into a class for a few minutes or may take the child outside for a parent to calm them down. Please follow the instructor’s suggestions, and your child will have the best experience. It usually takes 2-3 classes at most for children to become comfortable with their new friends and the atmosphere.
We understand this can be a difficult situation for both students and parents, but ask that you please reflect the rules of the class for your student. Students who are not encouraged to follow the rules of the classroom set the example for the rest of their peers, which can sometimes lead to bad feelings between children.
Rest assured that all Limelight instructors have experience with shy students, and this behavior is completely natural and common.

The age at which dancers start pointe work varies from student to student. Strength is paramount in being able to wear pointe shoes for extended periods of time. Premature wearing of pointe shoes or insufficient training can result in serious injury. We are strongly committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our dancers.
Children under the age of 10 will not be permitted to perform in showcases on pointe. Our qualified instructors must decide as to when a student is ready for pointe work.
In addition, students must take pre-pointe/pointe conditioning for a minimum of a year, and a minimum class requirement of two ballet classes at respective level, before progressing to dancing on pointe.
